Compound comparison

Thymosin alpha-1 vs KPV

Thymosin alpha-1 and KPV both sit in the immune category, one studied for immune cell function and one for calming inflammatory signaling.

This page is an educational comparison, not medical advice, and it does not recommend either compound. Regulatory status differs between them; see the table below.

Thymosin alpha-1 and KPV are both discussed under immune support, which is why they are compared. Thymosin alpha-1 is a peptide studied for enhancing T-cell and natural killer cell activity. KPV is a three-amino-acid fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) studied for reducing inflammation. Neither is FDA-approved.

Key differences

Thymosin alpha-1 is studied for supporting immune activity: T-cell maturation, natural killer cell activity, cytokine modulation and dendritic cell function. KPV is studied for the opposite direction of inflammation, reducing pro-inflammatory NF-kB signaling inside cells, with research concentrated on the gut and skin.

Thymosin alpha-1 is reported to be approved in some countries outside the United States, but a 2024 FDA review found insufficient evidence of effectiveness for the uses it evaluated. KPV is sold only as a research chemical.

Thymosin alpha-1's reported side effects are rare injection site reactions. KPV's are minimal, mainly occasional injection site irritation, and its long-term human safety data is limited.

What the research covers

Thymosin alpha-1 has randomized human trials, including in chronic hepatitis C, with mixed results. KPV's findings come from animal models of colitis and skin inflammation, and human clinical data is limited.
